The tax benefits created to foster economic developement save up to 90% off of customary Federal rates. In fact, the U.S. Treasury’s permanent regulations clarify source income treatment for certain knowledge-based businesses for ecommerce and software intellectual property models in the US Virgin Islands. Residents are 100% exempt from US taxes. And to spur economic development, the VI Bureau of Revenue offers up to 90% off of mirrored US rates and a low 4% rate on dividends and royalties generated in the Virgin Islands.
